Life Enhancing

Welcome to Sentient Home blog! I'm a registered architect in Australia and have been designing homes in earnest since before I was 12 years old. I'm now in my sixties so that's for over half a century so far of home design. And it has been a passion for me. I have designed everything from tiny homes through to mansions, and everything in between - city houses, country houses, apartments, townhouses, ranches, barns, multi dwelling, high density and so on.

I have also lived in numerous housing from a tiny terrace with a backyard toilet while a kid, to public housing, run down apartments during uni, a small house when I got married that we extended 3 times, then a heritage house, a falling down farm cabin, an apartment above the shops, and then a large mansion.

What I have loved is the connection to earth. I have missed this when I lived in apartments and have loved being able to walk outside and touch the ground. Even more I love to grow my own food and love the rush in my bloodstream from freshly picked food from the garden that I don't get from supermarket food.

I also have never had air conditioning. I love the fresh air and have never appreciated it more than when I have lived in the country on top of a mountain.

Likewise I love the dark, when on a moonless night you can look up and see millions of stars in the sky. And so a home to me that brings me joy is one that interacts with nature.
